Why Blog?}

Submitted by: Robert Nixon

A Blog is a tern used for ‘web log’, which in turn to most is the same as keeping a diary or journal, depending upon the author’s intent by the use of the format, or in this case the blog.

You want to Blog in order to have another way to increase traffic and links to you site. When a search engine spider goes to your site, it will pick up on the link to your blog and index it as another page of your site along with the content of the blog. You will want your Blog to reflect your website’s theme or use it as a means of it’s content to create enough interest by the reader to visit your website. People leaving comments at your blog will also show as traffic. As with all else, you must remember that the content, or text, is what the spiders see when they visit your site to index it. This content is used as the reference for searches done by visitors to the engine as they look for the matches to the keywords. This holds true whether or not the results of the search show a thumbnail of your site or simple html text, used as the link for the visitor to the engine to click on.

There are several places on the internet where you can get your own blog at no charge. Some will be easier than others to set up and edit, it depends upon your level of expertise and how you like the program’s resulting product. As with anything else, if you pay for something you will get more with a better quality. You will have to determine this for yourself. If you can not or don’t want to spend money, then you will have to do it yourself and work within the limitations of the version of the tool until you can afford to up-grade.

I set up a Blog this past week and as the first posting, used last weeks article I wrote for this newsletter. I also publish my article with a couple of content sites. In doing this I have created several links not only to my website but to the article itself. People and search for articles or Blogs and find mine via the topic. Traffic to the inter-linked pages from other websites that in turn go to my links gives my site more ‘depth’ across the internet. This is one of the major factors with your site’s ranking that should not be ignored. You may view my blog at my main website page by clicking on the box or by going here: http://cpucash.blogspot.com/

If you look at the upper right hand corner of the blog, you will see a link to get one of your own

As with article publishing, you have places to publish your blog and it’s information for those looking for information about your topic. You will want to up-date your ROR on your site also, as it’s listing of your blog will give the spiders a quick look at the links associated with your website. Here is a good place to start publishing your blog: http://pingomatic.com/

Who can tell how long this avenue of increasing ranking will be a useful tool? It can not be ignored, however and should be somewhere on your site for those looking for one from you.

Where does all this lead? To sign up for your newsletter, purchasing of your product or service. or whatever else you have to offer at your website. One of my client’s website produces at least a few calls a day from those that have visited their website. Of these the conversion to clients is around fifty percent. This may not sound like much, but when you take into consideration that the average client will spend from several hundred to several thousands of dollars for the products or services, it is a very good Return on Investment. That’s it, the bottom line being income generation. Not only will my client’s company get the initial income, but they will get residual income from up-grades and service calls. This increases their client base and with permission, the entering of links to and from the customer’s website does it’s thing for the clients website traffic and ranking.

Does it work? Yes. This past week I had a visitor to my website that also visited my blog. This person sent me an e-mail that I followed up on and became a subscriber to my newsletter. This is the main purpose of my site, that is to generate enough interest for a visitor to want more information from me via the newsletter. As the newsletter is sent to the subscribers, they will see the ad’s on the newsletter and after a period of time will trust me enough to look more deeply into the products and services I sell.

Conclusion: Having a Blog is just another way of doing everything you can in order to generate sales via the internet for the web side of your business. It is not considered a direct method but one that may spark interest enough by it’s content for the visitor to go to your main site and investigate more before purchasing. More and more people are researching more before purchasing, so you know that by the time they call or contact you from your site that they are down to the last step before purchasing. Treat them well and qualify them quickly and you should produce income.

Prohibition Party holds convention; nominates Jack Fellure for U.S. President

Thursday, June 23, 2011

Retired West Virginia engineer Lowell Jackson “Jack” Fellure won the presidential nomination of the Prohibition Party yesterday at the party’s National Convention in Cullman, Alabama. He won on the second ballot, defeating Thompson Township tax accessor James Hedges of Pennsylvania, who initially ran unopposed. Party Chairman Toby Davis of Mississippi received the vice presidential nomination.

The Prohibition Party is the third oldest existing political party in the United States, having been established in 1869. It reached its height of popularity during the late 19th century. As its name suggests, the party heavily supported the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which banned the sale of alcohol, and resulted in the US period known as Prohibition (1919–33). The party has declined since the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, but has continued to nominate candidates for the presidential election.

Fellure, 79, has run for president in every election since 1988, though usually as a Republican. This run marks his first as a member of the Prohibition Party. On his campaign website, he cites the Authorized 1611 King James Bible as his presidential platform, and calls for the teaching of the Bible in public schools, criminalization of homosexuality, and the elimination of abortion, the liquor industry and pornography. On economics, he supports reducing taxes and balancing the federal budget.

While Jim [Hedges] has contributed valuable resources to this Party…his positions regarding Environmentalism and passivity toward war forced me to vote for Jack Fellure.

Hedges, the first Prohibition Party member elected to public office since 1959, announced his campaign in February 2010, and was the only candidate until last month. According to Vice Chairman June Griffin: “While Jim has contributed valuable resources to this Party…his positions regarding Environmentalism and passivity toward war forced me to vote for Jack Fellure. As well, his insistence on a moratorium on the building of nuclear plants caused much unrest among the membership. Yet he prevailed to install this plank.”

The ten voting Prohibition Party convention delegates and a few guests met for the National Convention, which began on Monday at the Holiday Inn Express in Cullman. Tuesday featured a short greeting from Cullman Mayor Max Townson, followed by addresses from Libertarian consultant Stephen P. Gordon, Ballot Access News publisher Richard Winger, and Eunie Smith of the Eagle Forum.

Gordon, who previously worked as the e-Campaign manager for the 2008 Bob Barr presidential campaign, jokingly commented that his speech “stunk”. He opened his address with the joke that “the way to pick out the libertarian at a Prohibition Party function is that I’m the one wearing the Jerry Garcia tie.” He discussed how third party candidates could utilize new media to their advantage, but avoided any ideological topics.

Winger, an expert on election law, discussed ballot access and the history of the Prohibition Party. He notably explained how the party had cost the Republicans presidential victories in the elections of 1884 and 1916, which forestalled the passage of the Eighteenth Amendment by Republicans, who wanted to do away with the alcohol issue. Gordon later commented that Winger’s speech was well-received by the audience.

After Winger’s speech, the convention broke for lunch. Afterwards, Smith, the widow of former Congressman Albert L. Smith, Jr., focused on immigration and education in her address. When asked about the Eagle Forum’s participation in the fight against alcohol, she commented that the group was focused on more pressing issues such as gambling.

After the nomination, some party members traveled to the grave of Sidney Catts in Florida. Catts, who died in 1936, was the first and only state governor elected from the Prohibition Party.

The party will now begin ballot access drives in Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, New Jersey, Utah, Colorado, Tennessee and Arkansas. In 2008, the late Gene Amondson appeared on the ballot in Colorado, Florida and Louisiana and picked up a total of 653 votes.

Neola North wildfire in Utah blamed for three deaths

Monday, July 2, 2007

A wildfire in the Ashley National Forest has been blamed for three deaths and has led to the evacuation of about 500 residents of the communities of Whiterocks, Farm Creek, Paradise and Tridell in eastern Utah.

The fire broke out on Friday, June 29 at around 9:00 a.m. local time in Duschene county, north of Neola by state route 121, and proceeded to spread westward into Uintah county.

To date, the cause of the wildfire is unknown. An early report by public safety officials claimed it was caused by a faulty power line or transformer. However, a later announcement by Moon Lake Electric Association CEO Grant Earl disputed this.

By Saturday morning, the fire had spread across approximately 46 square miles of land and been blamed for three fatalities: George Houston, his son Tracy Houston, and Roger Roberson, all from Farm Creek. Eleven year old Duane Houston, George’s grandson, was able to escape the fire with only minor injuries.

The communities of Whiterocks, Farm Creek, Paradise and Tridell, consisting of approximately 500 local residents, were evacuated by Sunday, and at least five homes are known to have been destroyed. Those without family or friends to provide lodging have been relocated to the Ute Indian Tribe’s auditorium in Fort Duchesne and Union High School in Roosevelt.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency became involved in the management of fire fighting efforts on Sunday, and a specialized regional wildland fire team, the Rocky Mountain Type One Management Team, had begun to converge on the Uinta Basin to assist with the firefighting, along with about 100 members of the Utah National Guard.

Reports that same day claimed the fire was 5% contained, but that it had split into at least two separate smaller fires. Authorities declared their intention to prevent the fire from moving eastwards into Dry Fork Canyon and the town of Tridell.

Utah legalizes homebrewing

Sunday, March 29, 2009

The United States state of Utah has legalized homebrewing of beer and wine.

H.B. 51, “Exemption for Alcoholic Beverage Manufacturing License”, was signed into law by Utah governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. on March 24 after being passed by large majorities in both houses of the State Legislature. The bill was introduced by Salt Lake City representative Christine A. Johnson (D-25th district) and will take effect on May 12.

The act modifies existing Utah law to give an exemption to the state’s requirement of a brewing license for amateur brewers, as long as the beer or wine they produce is not for sale and the amount produced is less than 100 US gallons (379 liters) per year for an individual or 200 US gallons (757 liters) for a couple. The unlicensed distillation of spirits remains illegal in the United States under federal law.

Although prohibition of alcohol in the United States ended in 1933 and the homebrewing of beer has been legal at a federal level since 1978, many US states, counties and cities restrict the production, sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages more tightly than is done at the federal level. With the passage of Utah’s legislation, four US states still forbid homebrewing: Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi and Oklahoma.

The legislation was introduced largely through the work of University of Utah law student Douglas Wawrzynski. AHA director Gary Glass was also closely involved with Rep Johnson in drafting the bill’s language. Wawrzynski told Wikinews about what led him to initiate a campaign to change the law:

I moved to Utah from Connecticut in 2005 and started into the hobby [of homebrewing] shortly thereafter. There are multiple homebrew shops that have been operating legally in Utah for several years, so it wasn’t until after I started law school in the fall of 2007 that someone suggested to me that the hobby might not be legal in Utah. After having done some research and contacting the American Homebrewers Association, I began to understand the current ambiguity of the law and how it could certainly be interpreted to adversely affect homebrewers. In fact in 2005 the city of South Salt Lake had taken steps to affirmatively enact penalties for engaging in homebrewing. While that effort was ultimately abandoned it illustrated just how the current state of the law could have a negative impact on homebrewers.

Home-brewing is a healthy and vibrant hobby in Utah

Despite the restrictions, according to the American Homebrewers Association (AHA), some seven thousand people in Utah were illegally taking part in the hobby, which has 750,000 adherents nationwide. Rep Johnson said “home-brewing is a healthy and vibrant hobby in Utah” and thanked the AHA for “thorough education, great committee testimony and association members who flooded elected officials with emails of support.”

The bill passes on Rep Johnson’s second attempt to introduce it. As H.B. 425, the act was introduced late in the Utah legislature’s 2008 session, where it did not reach a Utah Senate vote. Ms Johnson’s legislative work has primarily concerned equality and human rights in Utah, including a successful attempt to add a voluntary amount to the marriage license fee in order to fund shelters for victims of domestic violence and a failed attempt to introduce language banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity into Utah state law.

I’m not comfortable with home brewing. It seems fraught with mischief to me

Opposition to the bill, meanwhile, was sporadic and reflected, in Wawrzynski’s view, bad understanding of homebrewing rather than hostility toward the hobby:

In each of the several committee meetings this bill went through, the bill was met with challenging and sometimes bizarre questions regarding its impact and what this would enable people to do. One Senator, Senator Lilenquist [State Sen. Dan Liljenquist, R-23rd district] even inquired if this bill would make it legal for someone to put beer in a baby bottle and give it to a one year old.

Ronda Rudd Menlove, a Republican representing the 1st district, says her primary concern in voting against the bill was the potential for alcohol to affect children:

When the vote was taken on HB 51, I had a constituent sitting by me, a young high school student. I briefly explained the bill to him during the debate and then asked him how he would vote on the bill and why. This is what he told me. He said that he was concerned that young people would have greater access to alcohol because alcohol would be brewed in homes resulting in great accessibility for youth living in those homes. This concerned him greatly as a member of a local youth city council as well. He is concerned about the amount of under-age drinking in his community and believed that greater access to alcohol could cause an increase in under-age drinking in Utah….

My secondary reason for voting against the bill is that I am adamantly opposed to the excess use and abuse of alcohol. I am opposed to any use of alcohol by pregnant mothers. As a secondary level teacher and high school administrator, I worked with troubled youth and special education populations. I have struggled with young people who live with the effects of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. If you want to be very depressed, read about the lifelong effects of FAS. This syndrome affects learning and behavior that is often erratic and unpredictable. Most of the students with FAS fail miserably in school and find little success in school, jobs, or life. This is a very serious problem related to alcohol use and one that affects the innocent fetus and not the perpetrator of this action.

Utah has quirky alcohol laws. The overarching goal of preventing under-age drinking and the abuse of alcohol has created these laws. The intention is admirable and one that I support. How to achieve these goals is challenging and has resulted in laws that may seem strange to others living outside of Utah. Utah’s Governor and Legislature has struggled with this and recently passed legislation revamping these laws. I voted against those changes due to the fact that little information was provided about the impact of the changes.

Kraig Powell (54th district), a Duchesne County Republican, the other representative to vote against the bill in its final form, said he did so because a constituent was “concerned about increased access to alcohol and drunk driving dangers”. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Assistant Whip Gregory Bell (R-22nd district), said to the Deseret News: “I’m not comfortable with home brewing. It seems fraught with mischief to me.”

Relax, stop worrying, and have a legal homebrew

Wawrzynski believes that education and understanding from the community were critical in the passage of the bill.

[T]hrough the efforts, emails and testimony of people like Representative Johnson and Gary Glass, and most importantly, from Utah homebrewers themselves, we changed minds through education. In fact, the Chairman of the Senate Business and Labor Committee, Senator Valentine (R-14th district) openly admitted on the record that he had been compelled to change his vote to a favorable one after hearing compelling testimony from member of the Utah community.

I think that as the state of Utah continues to grow in diversity, the community will become enriched with a wide array of backgrounds and opinions. As this happens we will have an opportunity to develop a greater understanding of our own neighbors and how differences in lifestyle can ultimately be respected and embraced.

Paralleling a common motto of the homebrewing community, Wawrzynski proclaimed on passage of the bill: “Utah homebrewers are finally free to relax, stop worrying, and have a legal homebrew”.

Canadian soldiers kill Afghan police officer

Sunday, August 27, 2006

In the second of what was termed a “regrettable incident” this week, an Afghan National Police officer was shot and killed by Canadian soldiers. Canadian troops opened fire on an Afgan National Police vehicle that was approaching a military installation west of Kandahar. Armed personnel on board the vehicle returned fire, resulting in a shootout between the Canadians and the Afgan police. The occupants of the vehicle are now believed to be members of Afganistan’s secret police force, the Amaniyat. Members of Amaniyat do have uniforms, but rarely wear them and rarely travel in marked vehicles.

“It is believed that the persons in the vehicle opened fire in response to warning shots fired by the Canadians,” said Col. Fred Lewis, commander of the Canadian forces in Afganistan. “It was at this time [that] Canadian soldiers returned fire on the vehicle and its six occupants.” The six were taken to the multinational military hospital at Kandahar airfield and are undergoing treatment. They are currently listed in serious but stable condition.

40 minutes later, a second incident occurred reminiscent of a shooting earlier this week in which a 10 year old boy was killed. Two motorcyclists were injured when they approached the same artillery installation at allegedly high speed. Canadian troops opened fire on the motorcycle riders after they allegedly failed to heed warning shots. “Efforts to slow or divert the scooter failed and troops subsequently fired shots in self-defence. One man was injured by a shot while the other wounded when the scooter ran off the road,” stated a press release from NATO. The motorcyclists were later identified as also being members of the Afghan police.

“It would appear that Canadian soldiers reacted in self-defence in both incidents, one of which was regrettably a friendly force on friendly force engagement,” Lewis said.

NATO apologized for the incidents, describing both shootings as self-defence reactions to volatile circumstances. Canada’s military investigative body, the NIS and the Afghan police will investigate the shootings.

Oil On Canvas Advertising Art Is Special And Unique}

Oil on Canvas Advertising Art is Special and Unique

Stephanie Ellsey

The pieces of art that are on the walls in your home are great for adding interest to otherwise plain walls and for showcasing your personal style. Antique artwork is a great way to spice up any room in your home and there are many unique pieces out there that you can choose from at a quality antique dealer shop. One form of art that is truly one-of-a-kind and can be found for sale today is oil on canvas advertising art. This type of art was prevalent in the 18th century in England.

Original advertising art was created by artists who were designing advertising pieces for companies. These pieces of art were done on canvas or other materials and were created with the use of the finest oil paints for a rich look. Often, before an ad was approved an artist made the piece of oil on canvas advertising art and then the editors would mark the piece to show where they wanted changes to be made. Many of these antique original advertising art pieces that have the editing marks and notes on them can be bought today and are truly special because they have never been seen by the general public.

Another great thing about purchasing oil on canvas advertising art is that it was made with very high quality materials so that it will stand the test of time. These art pieces will last for a lifetime and will continue to look beautiful for the entire time that you have them. They are something special and different than most works of art because they were created originally to market an item or product, so they add a whimsical nature to wherever you put them. These pieces were created to sell items, so there are very few of these original advertising art paintings around, giving you almost a guarantee that you will have something different from everyone else.

You can find these canvas paintings at an antiques dealer that purchases high quality original artworks. These dealers have the connections to find you specific advertising art items that you want, or you can look at the large collections that they have for sale. Give your home an old-fashioned dash of style with original advertising art that you purchase from an antiques dealer.

Use oil on canvas advertising art pieces to liven up any room in your home. They will add interest to the rooms that they are in and will spark interesting discussions among your visitors.

If your living room or office needs a special piece of furniture that will draw the eye and add timeless beauty to the room, you may be having trouble finding such an item at the regular stores near you. Modern furniture is often cheaply made and mass produced, so that no matter what store you are shopping at, the furniture will all look the same. Finding the right desk or writing table may be a challenging task, but if you try an English antiques dealer, you may be pleasantly surprised. A good dealer will sell antique English Victorian writing tables, as well as Georgian writing tables that are impeccably designed and eye catching in their elegance.

New fossils from 10 million year old ape found in Ethiopia

Thursday, August 23, 2007

Researchers say that new, ten million-year-old fossils found in Ethiopia, prove that the theory that humans may have evolved from a species of great apes eight million years ago, may not be true, but that humans may have split from apes as long as 10.5 million years ago.

At least nine fossilized teeth, one canine tooth and eight molars, of a previously unknown species of apes found in Africa were discovered by a team of researchers from Ethiopia and Japan who then compared the 3-D make up of the teeth to other fossils that date back as far as 8 million years and found that the fossils are likely a “direct ancestor” of apes currently living in Africa and that the new ape fossils were that of a species of gorilla who ate mostly plants high in fiber.

Current fossils and research say that the evolutionary split from apes to humans occurred at least eight million years ago. The new fossils say that the split may have happened as long as 10.5 million years ago.

“Based on this fossil, that means the split is much earlier than has been anticipated by the molecular evidence. That means everything has to be put back,” said researcher at the Rift Valley Research Service in Ethiopia and a co-author of the study, Berhane Asfaw.

Despite the finds, other researchers are not convinced that the findings are correct.

“It is stretching the evidence to base a time scale for the evolution of the great apes on this new fossil. These structures appear on at least three independent lineages of apes, including gorillas, and they could relate to a dietary shift rather than indicating a new genetic trait,” said a Professor at the London Natural History Museum in the United Kingdom, Peter Andrews who also added, “but the fossil evidence for the evolution of our closest living relatives, the great apes, is almost non-existent.

Researchers have named the newly discovered species Cororapithecus abyssinicus whose remains were found in the Afar Region of Ethiopia, the same place where the remains of Lucy were discovered in 1974.

The Best Excavators Available On The Market Today

By Robert Tate

In our troubled economy it is just good business to get the most for your money. Excavators are a large and expensive piece of essential equipment for construction. You may have asked yourself if it is better to buy new or used equipment. The most recognizable model, the Caterpillar, also known as the Cat, has been shown as one of the hardiest when well maintained. Next the Komatsu, Volvo, and Hitachi are all top notch machines. As for the JCB’s the buzz is on the rise. Now interest in these machines is not limited to commercial use. Any one with a hole to dig would benefit from a mini excavator. Having seen one in action I can attest to their usefulness. But I have to stress that you be properly trained in how to use them because they weigh in excess of 12,000 pounds and can cause serious damage if used improperly.

The JCB mini digger 8014 boast a 1.1 liter capacity engine giving it 11% greater fuel efficiency, always great to save on gas, lower emissions, leave less of a carbon foot print, and a bigger diesel tank, spend less time filling up. The tubular boom design with gives it strength and durability. The design of the frame means less counter weight is needed. Retailing at over a hundred thousand it is always smart to start used. The best way to go about it is to ask questions, check the hours logged and be prepared.

Now as a counter balance is the JCB 3cx mounted on tires and not tracks this rig is better suited for residential work. It has a digging depth of 18′ 6′ it is an excavator and front end loader. No reason to have two machines for one job. It retails at just under a hundred thousand dollars and seems to be the best tool for the job.

YouTube Preview Image

Full sized Komatsu, Volvo, and Hitachi brands tend to be on the expensive side. Retailing for over 200,000 dollars. They would make a good addition to any out fit, but where they are nice to look at they are notoriously hard to find parts for should they break, let alone a mechanic. I cannot say much for them but they do cost considerably less used. A 3 year old model costing nearly 75 % less than new one.

Finally we come to the king of hole. The Cat. Easily the most recognizable excavator in the world. Durable and cost effective. Retailing at about 100,000 dollars new and half that used. There is no shortage on parts or skilled labor to fix these monsters. When considering a piece of equipment for a long haul, don’t overlook the Caterpillar.

Weather you go mini or full sized make sure you research your machine, sometimes the yellow pages just won’t cut it. Go online, spend time looking and find the best deal for you. Every dealer now has their own website but don’t be afraid to look at a smaller site.
